Introduction: In taekwondo, athletes must comply with official weigh-ins, and to do so, they employ strategies to reach their desired weight, establishing harmful eating behaviors. Objective: To determine the association between risky eating behaviors, self-perception of physical appearance, and weight control in Taekwondo athletes at the State High Performance Center (CEDAR) in the state of Quintana Roo. Material and method: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted with adolescents between the ages of 11 and 21 who practice taekwondo. Three questionnaires were administered: risky eating behaviors, self-perception assessment, and weight control assessment. Statistics: ANOVA/Kruskall-Wallis, Pearson's correlation, and X2. Results: One hundred adolescents were evaluated. Risky eating behaviors were found in 75% of the sample. A positive correlation was found: the lower the positive self-perception, the higher the frequency of risky eating behaviors. The high-risk group consisted of women under 21 years of age who had been training for more years, had lost more weight in competition, and had higher usual weight during vacations and the competitive season. Conclusion: Strategies are needed to control inappropriate behaviors, starting with a timely diagnosis, proper monitoring, and appropriate health education.
