Introduction: Breastfeeding offers multiple benefits for children's health and is considered essential for the craniofacial development of babies. However, its direct effect on the prevention of malocclusions is still debated. Objective: This study seeks to analyze the relationship between breastfeeding and signs of malocclusion in children, through a review of recent studies (2020-2024). Method: A literature search was carried out with selection criteria, using academic databases and gray literature. Studies were assessed for relevance and quality, and data were synthesized to identify patterns. Results: The review indicates that exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months is associated with less presence of malocclusions, especially in the primary dentition, and that prolonged bottle use and non-nutritive sucking habits increase the risk of malocclusions. Conclusion: Currently there is not enough high-quality evidence to support that breastfeeding has a positive effect on the prevention of malocclusions, although it may be a protective factor. More studies are required to explore these relationships and encourage this practice to benefit the baby's oral health.
