Introduction: Aging is a natural process that brings with it age-related syndromes such as the loss of muscle mass, in which the intake of energy, proteins, amino acids and vitamins is necessary to obtain this. Not a single nutrient is required but rather a combination of all of them for muscle synthesis that can be obtained through healthy dietary patterns. Objective: Describe the effectiveness of different dietary patterns that are similar to the milpa diet on increasing muscle mass in elderly. Material and method: A systematic review was carried out according to the PRISMA 2020 guide in 3 databases with the words diet, feeding behavior, muscle, and older adults in English. Results: They were identified 4 systematic review that met the inclusion criteria, participation of older adults and relationship between diet and muscle mass. Conclusion: Healthy regional dietary patterns are an important part of increasing and preserving muscle mass throughout life, more studies are needed regarding healthy eating patterns such as the milpa diet to fill the gap in existing information on this topic.
